About the event
A vision. A lullaby. A love song. A lament.
Consequential moments in the life of Jesus are revealed to us through the words of his closest companions: Mary, his mother, and Mary Magdalene, the disciple. From birth to death, their eloquent words reflect the strength, love, despair, and hope experienced by Christ's family and friends.
Serafina brings the words of the Marys to life in a program that spans nearly seven hundred years of music history. Each piece, written by or for women musicians, offers a reflection on the life of Christ through the words of the two most outspoken women of the New Testament. The program includes music by recognized names, such as St. Hildegard von Bingen and Barbara Strozzi, as well as lesser-known and anonymous composers.
Serafina welcomes audience members of all ages, backgrounds, and musical tastes to their events. We believe that live performance and historical music should be accessible to everyone.
