Baptism

Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby!

St. Mary Catholic Church shares in your joy as you give thanks to our Heavenly Father for the birth of your child!  We also understand that with this excitement comes exhaustion too, so please take your time reading how to prepare for your child’s Baptism. Our guidelines are here to support your relationship with Jesus!

The Sacrament of Baptism for infants and children under the age of seven is usually celebrated on the second Sunday of each month at 1 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church. At least one parent must be a registered parishioner of St. Mary. If you are a relative of a registered parishioner, you will be required to provide St. Mary with a letter of delegation from your home parish granting us permission to celebrate the baptism.

Before the baptism, parents will be required to meet to prepare for the sacrament.  To inquire about the reception of the sacrament of Baptism, please contact Christine Wagberg, Coordinator of Family Life, cwagberg@st-mary.org or call 248.547.1818 ext. 209

For children who are eight years and older, please reach out to Donna Trudell, our Director of Faith Formation, at 248.547.1810 ext. 207 to make arrangements to prepare your child to receive the Sacraments of Initiation.

The Steps of Baptism Preparation

Step 1 - Register as a Parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church

It is important to have a home church where you practice your faith with a community that supports you in your relationship with Christ. Parents must be a registered parishioner for at least 3 months and worship regularly at mass prior to celebrating a baptism. Parents should attend weekly mass and support the parish by participating in activities and giving time, talent, and treasure. To register as a parishioner please contact the Parish Office at 248.547.1818.

Step 2 - Initial Meeting

After reviewing the information on the website, please contact Christine Wagberg, our Coordinator of Family Life, at 248.547.1818 ext. 209 or by email cwagberg@st-mary.org to schedule the initial meeting at St. Mary Parish Office. This meeting begins the preparation process.
